Formative Psychology is a contemporary body-oriented approach created by Stanley Keleman in California in the 1970s in the context of the humanist movement. Stanley Keleman developed his work in the Center For Energetic Studies in Berkeley, California, and during his lifetime stayed in close contact with the professional team of the Centro de Formativa do Brasil (Brazilian Center for Formative Psychology) in Rio de Janeiro.
The formative theory is grounded in Biological, Psychological and Phenomenological principles and its methodology consists of the reorganization of somatic-emotional shapes, deepening the relationship between body and brain, through the practice of specific exercises. The formative exercises, structured around gestures and body postures, aim to modulate and change emotional attitudes, behaviors, thoughts and narratives.
Professional Course Program Taught in Continuous Flow
Since 2020 the Professional Course started being ministered in Continuous Flow, admitting people throughout the entire year. Each participant must do twelve continuous modules, take part in all formative practice classes, and attend all online meetings to discuss clinical cases from the moment they join the course, according to the program below. All modules are both theoretical and experiential.
At the start of the first module professionals must also initiate their individual therapeutic process. The course also includes the optional participation in the online study group in Formative Psychology®. (Please check dates in the program below)
