Professional Course

Foundations of Formative Psychology®

PRESENTATION

Formative Psychology® is a contemporary body approach, created by Stanley Keleman in California, in the 70s, in the context of the emergence of the humanist movement. The formative theory is based on principles of Biology, Psychology and Phenomenology and its methodology works with the reorganization of somatic-emotional forms, deepening the relationship between body and brain, through a specific practice of exercises. The formative exercises, structured from gestures and body postures, aim to modulate and change emotional attitudes, behaviors, thoughts and narratives.

As of 2020, the Professional Course began to be taught in Continuous Flow, admitting people in any module throughout the year. All modules are theoretical-experiential, presenting in depth the fundamental principles of Formative Psychology® and offering the experiential experience of formative work. For more details, see the items below.

In order to register, it is necessary to send a brief letter of intent, containing your professional interests and a mini-resume so that a face-to-face, telephone or Internet interview can be scheduled, in case you reside in another state.

INSCREVA-SE

Train professionals to think formatively and work with the theoretical-methodological model of Formative Psychology®, applicable to the fields of psychology, education, physiotherapy, body therapies, people management in organizations, coaching and performing arts.

The course is aimed at professionals in the areas of Health, Education, Art, Humanities and Social Sciences, admitting students in the last year of the respective courses.

It consists of three continuous modules, 18 Formative Practice classes, 10 case supervision meetings and 2 Emotional Anatomy Groups: Theory and Practice. The entire program aims to expand theoretical and methodological knowledge of Formative Psychology® and deepen knowledge about the Formed Body through the study of Somatic Structures described in the book and DVD “Emotional Anatomy” by Stanley Keleman. For those in the 3rd year of the course, the process of preparing the monograph also begins.

FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES CYCLE – Theoretical-Methodological Foundation of Formative Psychology®

CYCLE INHERITED STRUCTURES – Constitutional Structures and Somatic Plasticity

FORMED STRUCTURES CYCLE – Somatic Structures and Identity Organization

The development of these CYCLES includes a schedule consisting of: theoretical and practical content (130 hours), supervised professional practice (190 hours), case supervision (54 hours), individual sessions (40 hours), and monograph guidance (15 hours).

4.1 SUPERVISED PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE

From the second year onwards, all students must carry out supervised professional practice. This may occur through a bank of hours or through carrying out a specific project in an institutional context. Each person must bring at least two cases per year for supervision, according to a previously organized schedule.

4.2 INDIVIDUAL SESSION PROCESS

From the 2nd module of the first year, all students must have started individual sessions with one of the members of the Center’s professional team. Conducting individual sessions allows the participant to personally experience how the training work works and is of fundamental importance for learning the method and theoretical understanding. The cost of individual sessions is not included in the cost of the course. Participants will benefit from the flexibility of the usual values that must be agreed directly with the chosen professional.

4.3 ONLINE TRAINING PRACTICE AND SUPERVISION CLASSES

All participants must attend all Friday Formative Practice classes and online supervision sessions.

4.4 MONOGRAPH

Upon completion of the course, the student must present a monograph that demonstrates the understanding of the theoretical and methodological concepts of Formative Psychology®. This work must be guided by a professional teacher of the Professional Course, throughout the 3rd year of the course. Group monograph meetings are included in the program. The value of individual mentorships is not included in the course fee, but there is a standard fee followed by all advisors.

The program involves theoretical and experiential meetings, covering lectures, seminars, workshops, online group conversations, supervised professional practice, preparation, presentation and discussion of cases, personal psychotherapeutic process and preparation and presentation of a monograph. The course has a basic and a complementary bibliography.

The evaluation will be carried out by monitoring the participants during the learning process, by quantifying the frequency (85%) — as long as the absences are not consecutive — cumulatively with the qualitative results of the other activities that make up the structure of the course , namely: participation in classes, presentation of cases, presentation of monograph and individual sessions.

The course certificate will have the following qualification: Certificate of Completion of the Professional Course in Formative Psychology®.
